Why A Night Out Dancing Is The Best Way To Relieve Stress

Posted by Kelsey Juntwait on

In today's fast-paced world, stress has become an inevitable part of our daily lives. From demanding work schedules to personal obligations, it can feel like there's no escaping the overwhelming pressure.

However, amidst the chaos, we often forget that our bodies have an incredible ability to release stress and restore balance. And this can be done by heading out to the club on a Friday night and literally dancing and shaking that stress away.

Being able to experience a somatic release by moving your body through DANCE can lead to significantly reduced stress, weight loss, and increased happiness and relaxation for the week ahead.

How shaking your butt at the club is a form of somatic exercise:

Somatic exercises are repetitive movements that have the incredible ability to regulate your nervous system and bring your physical body closer to your mind.

Think of how you tend to pace when you're stressed or how you rock your hips back and forth when you're trying to soothe a baby or how you shake your leg under your work desk if you're anxious or stressed...

These are all technically forms of somatic release in which you're doing a repetitive movement to self soothe yourself.

Dancing does the same thing!

When you go out to a club and start shaking your butt to a song you love, it's providing the exact same self soothing and healing benefits that all the things listed above do. Dancing and shaking is also a form of somatic release — that's just A LOT more fun than simply rocking your hips back and forth when you can't fall asleep at night!

How shaking your butt at the club can release stress:

When stress builds up, your body starts storing more physical tension in it — which is why you probably experience back, neck, and shoulder pain when you're more stressed than usual. Stress also causes more mental exhaustion and overall physical discomfort when it comes to digestion and sleep schedules (among other things).

However, when you engage in somatic release techniques, such as shaking your booty in the club, you're providing a physical outlet for releasing this stored stress. This awakens your body's natural response to stress, allowing it to physically release tension and anxiety. Additionally, this kind of repetitive movement activates the parasympathetic nervous system, triggering a relaxation response and reducing the production of cortisol in the body (aka. the stress hormone).

How shaking your butt at the club can aid in weight loss:

Who said exercise had to be a chore!?

Shaking your booty at the club is a fun way to burn calories and shed excess weight. Dancing or engaging in rhythmic movements not only increases your heart rate but also activates various muscles throughout your body.

Somatic exercises have also been proven to aid in targeted weight loss in the midsection (specifically, losing the weight that's being caused by a cortisol belly).

So, instead of dreading the gym, turn up the music and let loose with some booty-shaking moves to achieve your fitness goals.

How shaking your butt at the club can make you happier:

Shaking your body and butt triggers the release of endorphins — 'feel-good' hormones. Which means dancing and moving rhythmically (as you would in the club) provides an actual neurochemical boost, promoting a sense of happiness, joy, and relaxation.

The physical act of shaking also helps release stagnant energy, creating space for positive emotions to flow freely. Engaging in this somatic release practice regularly can significantly improve your overall mood, leaving you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated for the week ahead.

So next time you're stressed, call up a friend and head to the club!

Amidst the hustle and bustle of your daily lives, incorporating a somatic release practice, such as shaking your body and shaking your butt at the club this weekend, can prove to be a powerful tool for stress management, weight loss, and overall well-being!

By allowing your body to move freely and release stored tension, you can reduce stress levels, burn calories, and experience increased happiness and relaxation. So, the next time you find yourself overwhelmed, put on your favorite tunes, let loose, and experience the transformative power of shaking it off. Your mind, body, and spirit will thank you for it.

And since you can't get to the club every day and every weekend (because responsibilities and all...), you can also start a daily somatic exercise practice with one of our signature somatic release programs!
